San Francisco Peninsula Toddler Fun Page

Welcome to our favorite places to go as a toddler

Bamboola in San Jose. This place is great for toddlers on rainy days and not very crowded on weekday mornings. Their actual website doesn't tell much. Pay once and toddlers will play for about 2 hours. Great pretend play, face painting and rock climbing. They have food, but we usually eat at Round Table Pizza or the sushi place in the strip mall. It is a regular stop for us from 18 months to current preschool age.

CA Academy of Science in San Francisco. This is an amazing 2-4 fun for adults and children but will be closed from December 31, 2004 until 2008.

Chuck E. Cheese in Redwood City. We went to Chuck E. Cheese in Redwood City for a birthday party in 2004 and hope never to return again. The food was bad, the service was deplorable and the rides and climbing equipment were dirty.

Coyote Point Museum in San Mateo. Great place for a 1-2 hour visit. Indoor and outdoor zoo (with an amazing look at a bee hive in action). Great pinic spots. They accept SF Zoo passes.

Great America in Sunnyvale. I bought a season pass when the girls were 2.5 and 1 and were amazed how many rides they could go on. As long as your children are at least 32 inches there are enough rides for at least two hours there. Weekdays had very short lines in the two children sections.

Hiller Aviation Museum in Redwood Shores or San Carlos (depending on if you are using a map website). Great rainy day activity for about an hour at the toddler age. The volunteers who work there are very knowledgable. Nice but small lunch area with ride on toys where you can bring lunch.

Palo alto Junior Museum. Great indoor/outdoor zoo and play place for 1-2 hours. To extend the outing, the Palo Alto Library in the same block has a great story time and the park is great.

San Francisco Zoo in San Francisco.

San Mateo County Faire in San Mateo. This runs for one week in August. They have several toddler rides but most require children to be 36 inches or more. They have a toddler fun area every year with ride on toys, instruments etc. The favorite part though is getting up close and personal with the giant cows and the baby animals.

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in Santa Cruz. This is an easy half day if not longer adventure. There are several toddler rides which I paid for by ride. Then of course, there is the beach.
